Finished and Sold!

I did get my little spool quilt done in time for the quilt show and it sold!  I was tempted to buy it myself but I did resist.
The quilting design I decided to attempt was the Baptist Fan and it didn't turn out too bad.
Here it is at the quilt show ready for bidders.
I know it is hard to see but at least you get the idea.

Now on to my next project....

Cheers!

Just Spoolin' Around

Just Spoolin' Around is the name of our guild's quilt show and at the last minute I decided to make a little spool quilt for the silent auction.  I used Bonnie Hunter's spoolin' around pattern to make the little 3" spools and they were such fun to make I know I will make this pattern again once I have more time.

I used scraps from my Easy Street quilt because I just love those colors and they hadn't made it back into my stash closet.  I have to get the quilt quilted though and as usual thinking about what to quilt is always the question.  Do I just simply meander or should I try something like the Baptist Fan?  Well I have to make my decision quickly because it has to get done this weekend!

Interested in attending a lovely quilt show and are in the Mansfield, Ohio area?  Join the Mansfield Millennium Quilters for their quilt show on July 20 and 21st at the Richland County Fairgrounds.

Cheers!

Cat in the Cabin

Awhile back I had a post on some of my cat rescue group friends that wanted to make a quilt.  We had selected the pattern Jazz cats and I made up a few samples.  It is a darling pattern but we decided it might be a bit too difficult for beginners and searched for another pattern.  Eventually we settled on a log cabin with a cat center and wanted to do it in brights with the cats being "cat" colors.  Here is my first block with your basic black cat--everyone has to have at least one black cat or at least they should:)

I am still working on Temple Guardians and the good news is it is quilted--yippee!  Today I am putting the binding on while I watch a PBS mini-series which will be a purrfect thing to do while binding.

Cheers!

Quilting Blah

Ever have one of those quilting blah days?  I'm having one today.  Temple Guardians continues to get quilted because it has to or at least I am feeling the pressure of getting it done.  I decided to quilt feathers in the areas between the blocks and it isn't as nice as I thought it would be.  Of course I am getting lots of practice quilting feathers, but yikes they are funky looking.  I have to laugh when I look at some of those plumes that are supposed to be tear-drop shaped and they are nothing of the sort.  So many of them look like q-tips which just isn't feather-y.  Diane Gaudynski wouldn't be proud of my feathers at all!  As the saying goes, practice, practice, practice and fingers crossed when the quilt is finished funky feathers won't be as noticeable.

Of course I am going to blame the cat for the goofy feathers since he is only one of many that helped on this project.

Sigh, back to quilting more feathers.

Cheers,

Quilting Temple Guardians

Temple Guardians is the name of the quilt that I am trying to get quilted and finished before mid-July.  I started the quilt in 2006 and finished putting it all together sometime in 2007.  I then started hand quilting the blocks and actually had three done with an echo quilt around each cat.  I realized it would take me forever to get quilted and decided to put it away for awhile.   The quilt sat on a shelf for five years and when I pulled it out I decided to rip out my hand stitching and machine quilt it.  I ripped my stitches, washed the backing again since it had lots of cat hair on it, replaced the cotton batting with wool batting since I really love wool and left it for a few more months.   Now is finally the time to get it quilted since I apparently love the pressure of a quilt show--LOL!

Temple Guardians is a BOM from Story Quilts and here is what it looks like all pinned and ready for quilting.

When I originally basted the top in 2007 I had lots of help.

And now that I am machine quilting it I still have help.

I have all but one block quilted with a simple meander and need to quilt each cat as well as the areas between the blocks.  I am at a loss as to what I want quilt in those areas though and that might be part of my problem as to why this project isn't getting done.  I am going to have to get busy sometime soon though as this needs to be done by July 8th for the UFO challenge at our quilt guild and the show is two weeks later.

Oh, on this quilt I decided to use silk thread as my quilting thread and it seems to be going quite well. Thanks to Diane Gaudynski and her class at NQA a few years ago for teaching me all about the beauty of silk threads.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers,
